Child Nutrition Services believes that well nourished children are better prepared to learn and succeed in the classroom. To achieve this goal, we strive to provide quality, nutritious meal services that encourage our students to develop healthy eating habits which are essential to their development.

During the 2007- 2008 school year, the Child Nutrition Services Department provided 3,036,975 lunches and 1,399,156 breakfasts. This is the sixth year that the total amount of breakfast meals served has exceeded 1,000,000. These figures represent a daily average of 17,256 lunches and 7,950 breakfasts. During the 2007-2008 school year, Child Nutrition Services provided 65,684 after school snacks free of charge to students.

Did You Know....
the Child Nutrition Services Department has been self-supporting since 1981?

This means for over 20 years, we have not received any financial assistance from the district's general fund. In fact, Child Nutrition Services contributes money back to the school community for space utilization, energy use, and waste removal. Therefore, more district property tax money ends up in the
classroom where it belongs.

Although, the number of schools participating in the National School Lunch Program has remained constant, the number of schools participating in the National School Breakfast Program continues to rise. Breakfast meals are offered to all students, at participating schools, at no cost to the student following Universal Breakfast Program guidelines.

The continued participation of our students in our meal programs is due in part to the commitment and dedication of all the Child Nutrition Services employees to provide our customers with innovative, quality meal programs.
