Parents- Frequently asked questions about Provision 2, Universal Feeding:

1-What is Provision 2, Universal Feeding? An option that allows all enrolled elementary students to receive a breakfast and a lunch at no charge regardless of family income.

2-Is it necessary for all enrolled students to complete a school meal application? Yes, all enrolled students are requested to complete a school meal application.

3-If my child pays for meals, why do we need to complete an application? For the program to be successful, an approved application is needed for every student. Federal reimbursements for years 2 through 4 will be dependent upon completion of applications for all students in the first year.

4- Do applications need to be completed every year? No, applications are completed in a base year and then no applications are required for 3 subsequent years.

5-Can students receive a second meal at no charge? No, each elementary student is eligible for one meal at no charge every school day. A second meal may be purchased at the ala carte price - $1.00 for breakfast and $2.00 for lunch.

Parents- Frequently asked questions about the Point of Sale (POS) computers:

1-Child Nutrition Services has implemented Universal Feeding at the elementary schools, but what's being done for our secondary students? Students at secondary schools may participate in the breakfast programs at no charge. Secondary students will continue to use meal tickets for lunch until the new POS computer system is installed. Once the system is installed, students may use either pin numbers, or biometric scanning.

2-Do I have a choice between a pin number and biometric scanning for my child? Yes, parents will be informed about the computer system, and then they may select the best option.

3-What are the benefits of biometric scanning over pin numbers? It quickly identifies the student, there are no pin numbers to remember or steal, no ticket or card to lose, it captures only the points-not the whole print-and the image cannot be duplicated or recreated.
